The Cincinnati Bengals came into this NFL regular season with high hopes of being amongst the best teams in the league once again as they had the same AFC North champion team relatively intact with a key addition in perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Terrell Owens. Even though the Bengals were poised to make a run at the AFC North division title for a second straight year and possibly become a Super Bowl title contender in the AFC, Cincinnati just couldn’t play consistently well this season and finished the year with just four wins.
Everyone knew that having personalities like Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco at the same position was a dangerous combination that could either be unstoppable or disastrous, but ironically enough the combination seemed to work as both of these outspoken wideouts kept their mouths shut and turned out to be a pretty lethal combo downfield.
Despite being the younger of the two Pro Bowl caliber wide receivers, Ochocinco really struggled this season as T.O. finished the year as one of the league leaders in receiving yards.
The one player that stood to benefit the most out of the Cincinnati Bengals revamped receiving corps was quarterback Carson Palmer. Even though T.O. had his best season in quite some time, the Bengals QB really struggled and couldn’t lead this team to victory more than four times throughout the entire season.
There is no question that Palmer still has some good years left in him, but he no longer wants the rest of his career to be played in Cincinnati. Reportedly, the former Heisman trophy winner out of USC has asked to be traded by the Bengals.
There is no shortage of suitors for the talented veteran QB as the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins would love to have him under center next season, but apparently the Cincinnati Bengals do not want to trade him which could lead to the premature retirement of Carson Palmer.
